Bamboo Architecture

With the belief that bamboo will become "the green steel" of the 21st century, bamboo designs of VTN Architects have reached a higher precision that aims to survive the tropical climate and monsoon rain in Southeast Asia. Nevertheless, the challenge remained since local bamboos naturally come with a small stem, hence not ideal for designing large scale structures.

Through years of research and experience, some bamboo structures designed by VTN Architects have reached tens of meters in height. The projects have achieved high accuracy because of a manufacturing workflow that produces standardised bamboo modules. Furthermore, the technique of knitting a series of bamboo together allows the structures, highly accurate, yet small in size, to span wider distances. These add up to a new aesthetic. Not only does the efficient production allow for an affordable bamboo construction in Vietnam, but also with oversea projects. Since the earliest works in 2006 (wNw Café and wNw Bar), the office has started to train in-house workers to master building with bamboo.

The builders share the offices^ culture of meditating daily and maintaining the 5 Precepts following Buddhist teaching. A working environment of efficiency and honesty that goes far beyond mere architectural values becomes a unique characteristic of VTN Architects.
